Course Objectives:
- This painting course will introduce a variety of wet media such as tempera, acrylic, and watercolor. Assignments will focus on technique and the importance of color usage and color theory. There will be an art history component in which artists of the past and present are introduced along with their contributions to painting, the visual arts, and society. This class also provides an additional opportunity for those students planning on a career in the visual arts so they may refine present skills in the subject area.
- Understanding of relevant vocabulary and proper usage in communication.
- Demonstration of competence in a variety of wet media/ materials.
- Successful use of visual communication through utilizing concept, creativity, and skill.
Expectations:
- Put forth your best effort, no matter what your skill level may be. The only way you will learn and get better is if you try!
- Be prepared daily. Bring materials needed for class. If you are unprepared, it will affect your grade negatively.
- Be respectful towards yourself and others. Rules set forth in the AHS handbook apply in this class. Deviation from these rules and guidelines will not be tolerated.
- Be on time to class. Do no inconvenience others with your tardiness.
- Enjoy your time here. This is a unique time in your life. Savor this moment and your experience in this class!
Materials:
- Sketchbook (you need to buy one) - Acrylic
- Pencil - Tempera
- Variety of papers - Watercolor
Assignments/ Activities:
1) Viewfinder
2) Value chart
3) Color mixing/ matching (color swatch exercise)
4) Color wheel exercise
1) Abstract painting
2) Still life (perspective, white boxes, light source, tempera, monochromatic)
3) Complimentary color piece (still life)
4) Layered/ leveled monochromatic painting
5) Still life- Food items (acrylic, full color palette)
6) Watercolor (exercises, landscapes, O’Keeffe)
7) Full color palette painting (subject/ medium of choice)
8) Inspirational Artist/ Painter (painting in the style of your favorite artist +one page paper)
